The history of the building of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to the Repub lic of Estonia

The Embassy of the Repubilc of Lithuania to Estonia is located in a baroque style citizen' s house that has been declared an archite actual monument.It is the most attrative building o n UUS St.(15).Thougt the frame of the portal dispays the date "1751".The house it is consider abily older.It is likely that basement and the ground floor of the present building date bac k to Swedish rule in Estonia second half of the 17th century.In the very heart of the house , within the kitchen chimney wich looks like a huge stone botle ,is an ashlar with the date o f 1744.it may mark in the frist stage of reconstructation after the Northen War when the hous e once again was taken into use as a one-family dwelling.The building remaned a dwelling hous e even after the alderman of Talinn adapted the property for comerce pruposes.Namely the esta blisment of a building for the sorting of flax and hemp (in german Wrakhouse ).In 1749 / 175 1 a two stay and sorting building was built ,one flank of wich laned against the Town wall.T he other bordence on the Bremen Passage.The old house ,facing the street,received a modern fa cade.The portal with two flights of stairs in front of it and the stucco casting are worthy o f a palace.the ornaments above the door and on the ovoids are in exuberant rococo style.Abov e the portal these escutcheors bearning coats of arms and inicials of tralt ones attention.Th ese belongs to the merchant-alderman who began the adaption of the building for the sorting o f flax and hemp.The anchor is the emblem of the GERNET,merchant family.Wilhelm Hinrich Gerne t played a major role in the creation of the sorting house.His partners were from a trading c ompany named ADOLPH OOM & SÖHNE.The symbol on the arms of the Oom family is curious:a heart w ith horns.The inicial HE and the lion on the arms above to the right remind us,of HANS JACO B EGGERS,the alderman of merchant guild.He was also the first tenant of the building wich sat ayed in the possession of the town.He lived here and also had his office in the very same bui lding.from 1876 a school was situated in the building.On Mars 9 1949,during the Soviet bomb a ttack the building here received remarkably litterdamage.In 1949 this building was reconstruc ted around the school.The reconstrutation project was designed by the Estonian archiect I.Kan nelmäe.In 1995,the Embassy of Republic of Lithuania has resided

In the year 1597,on the 1 may,I was born at Lunden in Ditmarschen.My great grandfather wa s the very learned dr Johann Omb,by princely favour Count Johann Holstein,.by the reigning So vereign Gustav Adolf,Chanceller.
My great grandmother was Aut ....Buck in Schleswig.
My....was the celebrate Johannes Ohmb.....in Holstein.My grandmother ....My fathers nam e was Thomas Ohmb,and he was married to my mother Elisabeth Petterson the legitimate daughte r of Herr Caspar Petter.
In the year 1612 my mother sent me here to Reval,and I entered the service of old Herr Jo bst Dunten and served an apprenticeship of 8 years,and after 3 years had passed lived these a gain as an assistant.
In 1630 on 25 February I married the virtuous Jungfrau Dorothea von Renteln,and lived wit h her for 27 years and 5 months and had 9 children,6 daughters and 3 sons,one son stilllives. The daugters and others sons are all dead.
In my time,I have experimented much adversity,in my youth had to work hard so as to ea r a morsel of bread,have sailed 4 times to France,and also traversed the Continent,have take n salt and wines there for sale,and when His Magesty (Gustavus Adolphus) travelled to Strals und,I brougt a ship-load of rye through both the Imperial camps.On that account,in 1630 on 1 0 Sept.,I travelled to see His Magesty and to receive payment,....when I had go to away.
On 1 February 1631,I left my country to go after His Magesty to Livland,where I found him( the King presented him with two Estates,Sommerpahlen in Livland and Tols in Jerwen ).,wihic h he sold ,to satisfy his creditots.
On 20 July 1638 my son Hans was born at Sommerpahlen one of the estates then still in hi s possession,and baptised at Jacobi,godparents Colonel Conrad von Vitinghofand Herr Hans Dunt en.
In 1654 he is in Stockolm,his business was the wine trade,even French,rhine wines Spanish ,dutchwine,Alicant,Claretchery Brandy,Citron.wine,brandy.
